A Lot Can Happen in a Year

Courtney has been with us for exactly one year and has been very tentative about sharing her amazing story this entire time.

This is a really big deal for her to open up this much and it means more than you can imagine to us for her to do so.

She is an inspiration for everyone she meets and keeps everyone motivated in class.  We hope that she can inspire you by sharing some of her experience in this post.

Please congratulate her next time you see her and leave a comment below showing your support.

Without further ado:

Courtney before FIT:

Courtney the week of April 4th, 2010:

On April 14, 2011 I will have been attending Bootcamp at Fun Intelligent Training for one whole year! If you knew me a year ago, you would have seen how much I struggled to complete the simplest tasks. Now, I can honestly say that I’ve worked my butt off (almost literally), and have made the most amazing progress. Progress that I never could have dreamed of making. The following is a list of the top 65 things FIT has done for me in the past 365 days.

  1. Helped me lose a considerable amount of weight (nearly 90 pounds and still losing)
  2. Improved my flexibility
  3. Improved my strength
  4. Improved my endurance
  5. Improved my speed
  6. Improved my balance
  7. Helped me gain muscle
  8. Helped me drop 8 sizes and 1 shoe size
  9. Increased my mobility
  10. Improved my self-esteem
  11. Boosted my self-respect
  12. Helped me be able to say the word “exercise” without freaking out
  13. Helped me slightly improve my “Knockout” skills
  14. Introduced me to better eating habits
  15. Helped me grow clavicles (I swear they didn’t exist a year ago!)
  16. Helped me form a waist
  17. Allowed me to accept that sore muscles are a good thing because it means that they’re working
  18. Given me back the ability to run around in the snow and play on the floor with my dogs
  19. Given me the ability to sit up in bed without having to use my hands to boost me up first
  20. Helped me get to the point where I can comfortably cross my legs in any chair that I sit in
  21. Made it so that I can squeeze into small spaces when helping around the house (i.e. under the pool deck)
  22. Helped me fit back into the seats at CCANH and Fenway Park
  23. Given me back the ability to go toe to toe with my siblings in the batting cages
  24. Helped me be able to work 60-70 hours a week without falling down exhausted
  25. Given me the strength to be able to walk for hours on end at a time
  26. Helped me reach the point where I can run from the car, upstairs to get whatever it is that I have forgotten, back to the car, without getting out of breath
  27. Cut my 5K time down from not being able to complete one in over an hour, to completing one in 47 minutes (hopefully that time will decrease again by the time I do my next one in May)
  28. Allowed me to have bragging rights when telling people that I flip tractor tires and can do 2’ box jumps
  29. Introduced me to some of the best people that I never would have met otherwise
  30. Allowed me to make friendships that I hope will last for the rest of my life
  31. Allowed me to train with the best coaches….EVER
  32. Pushed me beyond any and all limitations that I thought I had
  33. Given me the motivation to go after the things I want
  34. Helped me gain the determination to reach beyond what I thought I was capable of
  35. Showed me that being out of my “comfort zone” can be a good thing
  36. Given me the urge to try new things (like hopefully joining Jake St. Pierre on one of his adventures in the near future)
  37. Helped increase my confidence in my abilities
  38. Given me more energy in my daily life
  39. Helped me face the world with more positivity
  40. Helped me to realize that the number on the scale isn’t the end all be all
  41. Allowed me to no longer feel awkward in public
  42. Helped me to feel okay again in front of a camera
  43. Given me plenty of stories to share with people when I end up with battle wounds and bruises from previous workouts
  44. Helped me to exceed my personal expectations
  45. Instilled further in me the expression to “never judge a book by its cover”
  46. Allowed me to feel accomplished after each and every workout
  47. Increased my determination to succeed
  48. Given me the confidence to stand up for myself
  49. Helped me be able to comfortably wear jeans and a t-shirt (huge goal of mine when I first joined)
  50. Made me unable or unwilling to sit still for more than a few minutes at a time
  51. Improved my people skills
  52. Helped me to be able to face issues in my everyday life with more confidence
  53. Allowed me to worry a lot less about what others think of me
  54. Helped me become a more driven individual
  55. Helped significantly decrease my fears in general
  56. Inspired me to want to inspire and encourage others
  57. Motivated me to want to become a better person
  58. Helped me become excited about the small things in life again
  59. Supported me in every way imaginable
  60. Encouraged me when I thought I couldn’t do any more
  61. Celebrated every little step along the way with me
  62. Helped me to feel more proud of myself for my accomplishments than I’ve ever felt in my life
  63. Allowed me to continually prove to the people that have at one point or another told me that something is “impossible”, that they couldn’t be more wrong
  64. Showed me what unconditional acceptance means
  65. Proved to me that nothing is impossible with hard work and perseverance

FIT has undoubtedly changed my life for the better. Without it, and all of the people I’ve been lucky enough to be coached by, train with, encouraged and inspired by, I would not be the person I am today. To all of you, THANK YOU!
